Our Summer Bucket List

Well hello June!  You have greeted us with eighty to one hundred degree days and we are loving you!  Over the last few days we have taken full advantage of the sunshine.  The girls have smelled of sunscreen, had sand in every crevice, and sticky cheeks from frozen smoothie popsicles.  I have fallen asleep early each night from exhaustion and a very full heart.

So even if summer hasn't officially begun, we're in summer mode over here.  Tonight Eric and I started talking about what we want to do this summer and we created a summer bucket list!  I've never made a summer bucket list before, but thought I'd share ours in hopes that it inspires you to do some fun new things with your family!

Hello Baby Brown's Summer Bucket List

1. Go to the zoo.  We have a zoo pass so I want to make sure we take advantage of them.  Random lunches or afternoons roaming the zoo with the girls?  Count me in.

2. Visit new parks and splash pads.  Sloan is a total park junkie, so I love finding new ones to take her to.  There are a ton of splash pads in and around Portland, we plan on spending lots of afternoons cooling off at splash pads.

3. Evening walks and walktails.  We love going on family walks and plan on taking many strolls around the neighborhood this summer, walktails in hand.

4. Go to the beach.  We live about two hours from the coast and plan on taking the girls this summer. It'll be Phayre Bear's first beach trip!  And Sloan has been dying to fly a kite, so we'll need to check that off of our list too!

5. Go boating!  We recently bought a (new to us) boat and plan on spending many afternoons cruising the river.  As well as picnic dinners on the boat and maybe even a overnight island camping trip (mayyyyybe).

6. Take me out to the ball game.  We love going to Mariner games and spending time in our old city.  We can't wait to visit this summer.  Bring on all the hard cider and garlic fries.

7. Go on hikes.  Oregon is beautiful and we can't wait to explore this summer.

8. Visit new restaurants and find more with outside seating!  There's something about sitting outside that makes a meal even better.

9. Spend more lazy days at home running through the sprinklers, lounging on the hammock, playing in the sandbox, and I might even try to work in the garden.

10.  Spend more evenings outside, just Eric and I, with a cocktail in hand.  We're hoping to do some work in our backyard this summer so that it feels like more of a sanctuary!

I hope you found some good ideas and I encourage you to make a summer bucket list with your family.  We are so excited for all of our summer adventures as a family of four this year!

Crawling

Photo by the very talented Lindsey Wiatt Photography

Phayre is having quite the week!  We had to lower her crib on Monday because she started pulling herself up.  She got three new teeth on Tuesday (they all popped through in one night and she didn't wake up once. #dreambaby) and this morning she started CRAWLING!!!  Ten months and three days old and she finally crawled.  She has been pulling, scooting, and rolling around for weeks, but today she finally crawled.  I was so proud when she finally crawled, I burst into tears.  These milestones are so bittersweet!  I am so proud and happy, but cannot believe my baby is almost one and trying to shed her babiness so quickly.

I learn so much from my girls.  They keep me on my toes, but teach me some of life's most important lessons.  At Phayre's nine month check up I marked "no" on almost every single gross motor question.  She was not crawling, not rolling from her tummy to back, and would barely put weight on her feet.  It was an awful feeling (and not something I had ever experienced with Sloan).  I told our pediatrician that I was concerned P was falling behind in the gross motor department.  She checked P out and said that she did have low muscle tone and that while she was not technically behind, we could see a physical therapist if we wanted to be proactive.  Eric and I majorly disagreed on what to do.  He said, "She's a perfect baby, she'll do things when she's ready!"  Being the crazy person that I am, I made the appointment anyways and told myself that I must be proactive.  No baby of mine would fall behind ;).

We went to Phayre's first physical therapy appointment and the doctor spent some time on the floor with her.  After awhile, he stood up and said, "I'm honestly not sure why you're here.  Your baby is fine.  She will crawl when she's ready, which will probably in the next month."  Eric: 1 Marisa: 0.  So Eric was right, I shouldn't have taken her in (thanks for not saying "I told ya so" babe, wish I could get our $45 copay back :-I).  Even though everyone was telling me not to worry, I couldn't help it.  I read this blog post that my friend Erin wrote and she talked about worrying about her daughter walking late.  She explained that raising her and making sure she hit every milestone was her job.  She didn't want to be bad at her job!  That's exactly how I've been feeling.  These girls are what I do all day, it's my job to make sure they don't fall behind.

Well it turns out, P did crawl when she was good and ready.  And when she had something worth crawling for... which would happen to be shoes (girl after my own heart).  When I really think about it, this is so Phayre's personality.  She is beyond easy going and isn't really in a rush to do anything (except eat).  I kept comparing her to Sloan and wondering why she didn't crawl at 7 months like Sloan did.  Well because she isn't Sloan, she is Phayre and she is perfect just the way she is.  I know you're not supposed to compare your kids and I feel really really silly for doing so.  So thank you for teaching me a lesson P, promise I'll try not to let it happen again!

Today has just been a good day and I am one proud mama.  Go little P go!

Ryan and Wren // My Custom Clip set!

I am so so way super excited to share the clip set that I designed for Ryan and Wren!  I adore the shop owner Mary and have been a long time fan of her shop.  While she does make headbands too, she is known for her adorable leather and glitter snap clips.  When Mary asked me to design my own set I was like, "HECK YEAH!"  They are the best and so darling, I hope that you love my set!!

These were the first clips that would stay in Sloan's whispy little hairs when she fiiiiiinally started getting hair!  They are perfect for keeping those little baby hairs or bangs back.  They also come in every color imaginable!

I chose all of our favorite basics for my clip set.  These are the clips that we use most and go with pretty much everything!  The gold glitter is Sloan's favorite so I knew that one had to be included, plus who doesn't love gold glitter!  The blush and navy go with everything, two of my go to's!  The leopard is my favorite.  A bright, solid colored dress paired with the leopard clip is the cutest ever.  And I chose the hot pink pom clip last because it's just so fun!  It looks so cute on Sloan and I have a matching headband for Phayre!

The set will be available this Friday, June 3rd (you can purchase here)!  It is being offered for a special discount and you can snag one for $17!  You can also enter to win a set right now on my Instagram!

I hope you love the set as much as I do!
